The inaugural SummerSlam took place on August 29, 1988 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York. The main event featured the Mega Powers – “Macho Man” Randy Savage & Hulk Hogan – teaming up to take on the Mega Bucks – the “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase & Andre the Giant – in a tag team match. As a series, SummerSlam has continued to hold events annually through 2022.
